About Sannan Mahboob.

Who I Am

I’m Sannan Mahboob, a Rabab player, music educator, and cultural ambassador from Pakistan. My passion lies in preserving traditional music while making it accessible to modern audiences. Rooted in the classical and folk traditions of South and Central Asia, I use my craft to create connections—between people, cultures, and generations.

My Musical Journey
    •    Trained under Ustad Homayoun Sakhi, a global master of the Rabab.
    •    Performed at major stages including:
    •    All Pakistan Music Conference
    •    T2F Karachi
    •    Serena Hotel Islamabad (UAE’s 53rd National Day)
    •    Represented Pakistan at the World Youth Festival in Sochi, Russia.
    •    Featured in Coke Studio’s national project “Ao Ehad Karain” with Ali Hamza.

Global Cultural Work

In 2025, I launched “Heal with Rabab”, a music therapy program that uses the emotional power of sound to promote healing and self-expression. I’ve conducted workshops and sessions at:
    •    New York University (NYU)
    •    Afghan Cultural Society, Minnesota
 Sound mind center , Dumboo Brooklyn

My performances and teachings aim to spark dialogue between diverse communities through the universal language of music.


Research & Influences

My academic and artistic focus includes:
    •    The intersection of Afghan, Ottoman, and Indian music in contemporary form
    •    Classical rhythmic systems like Taal and Theka
    •    Oral vs. written transmission of musical knowledge
    •    use of rabab for mental health and healing as music therapy
